Sat 20 & Sun 21 Sep The Australian Body Art Carnivale 2008 …a Festival of Colour Eumundi Qld This weekend, make-up artists, painters, sculptors, designers, fashionistas, & lovers of all things colourful & artistic will descend on Eumundi for the 2008 Australian Body Art Carnivale in Eumundi, Queensland. Event organiser Peter Homan says the event will draw together cutting-edge artists who will create masterpieces using the human body as their inspiration – and canvas. “The Carnivale is centred around body art in its many and varied forms – from the more readily seen art form of face painting right through to cutting-edge full body painting using airbrush, sponge and brush, as well as special effects,” Peter says. “The theme for this year’s body art competitions, including face painting, is ‘The Natural World’ – and artists will be judged on their interpretation of that theme. Judges will also be looking for creative edge, originality, use of colour, and technical expertise.” “It will be a unique opportunity to watch Australia’s best full body artists and face painters do battle, and even try your hand at body art yourself by joining in various workshops,” he says. In addition to the spectacular body art, the 2008 Carnivale will feature the following: • Traditional Aboriginal body painting – demonstrations using natural clays and ochres. • Pavement art – with all visitors are invited to get involved in creating a masterpiece. • Art of the Body – a visual art exhibition, art sale and competition celebrating the human form, as well as life drawing and sculpture workshops. • Fashion Fiesta – parades showcasing the latest creations of local fashion designers. • Wearable art – competition and parades featuring garments created from reused or secondhand materials. Photographic competitions – in digital and photo print categories + truly unique photographic opportunities all weekend. “You don’t need to be an artist to enjoy the weekend,” says Peter. “Just come along to the Carnivale, soak up the fabulous atmosphere, savour the tasty food, and enjoy some great live music and entertainment.” For further info or to register for the competitions or workshops, visit www.australianbodyart.com.au
