beautiful music” Sunshine Coast Function Centre Caloundra RSL 19 West Tce Caloundra Seated Concert 18+ Doors open 2pm Featuring the Legendary Monroe Powell The longest serving Lead singer for The
Platters For the past 50 years the Legendary Monroe Powell has been a recording and touring lead vocalist with internationally acclaimed groups. Firstly with The Dominoes, but by far is most recognised as lead vocalist of The
Platters. Monroe was signed by The Platters founder/manager/songwriter Buck Ram to replace former singer Tony Williams. Buck Ram led The Platters to their first recording contract with Mercury Records and in the ‘50s
‘Only You’ became The Platters first Gold Record. Many more hits were to follow – ‘The Great Pretender, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, You’ve Got The Magic Touch, My Prayer’, and

SAVE THE DATE Fri 14 to Sun 16 May The Australian Body
Art Carnivale 2010 Various venues in Eumundi The Australian Body Art Carnivale promises to be bigger & brighter in 2010, with competitors and spectators in for a feast of colour, creativity, music & good
times. This year will see an expansion of all elements of the festival, with an overriding theme of FANTASY. The Carnivale will again be ‘A Festival of Colour’ centred around body art in its many &
varied forms. Spectators will be amazed as they watch artists using the human body as both their inspiration & canvas. Launch and Masked Gallery Walk (Friday night) The
Carnivale will kick off with a gala launch on the Friday evening from 6pm, followed by the main event for the night - the Masked Gallery Walk. This exciting event brings together 6 galleries from Eumundi’s
‘Memorial Drive’ teaming together to show art lovers that the cultural hub of Eumundi is a destination for quality artwork. $45 tickets for the night include drinks & tapas at each gallery, plus a beautiful
mask to get you in the mood for a wonderful night - and indeed weekend - of fun & celebrating the arts. Phone Steve Beardsley on 0400 716 526 to book your ticket for a night not to
be missed!
Competitions and exhibitions (Saturday & Sunday) Sat 15 & Sun 16 May will see a kaleidoscope of competitions & exhibitions. Body art As the name suggests, the Australian Body Art Carnivale has a strong focus on body art – from the more readily seen face painting right through to full body painting in the
categories of brush & sponge, airbrush & special effects. The theme for all 2010 body art category competitions is FANTASY. While many experienced body artists will compete, body art experience is not a
prerequisite. Some entrants in previous years had never before painted on a body – they simply used their artistic flair to work on a very different canvas … the human body! Entrants in the face painting
competition must work independently, while entrants in the full body art competition categories can team up with an assistant if they wish. Saturday
will see competitions in airbrush & brush & sponge body art, followed by a parade then announcement of the winners. Sunday
will see competitions in face painting & special effects, again followed by a parade then announcement of the winners. And it’s not just body art competitions. The Carnivale will also host competitions and exhibitions in:
Pavement art We have had pavement art displays by the Chalkwits in previous years, but 2010 will see the first fully-fledged pavement art comp (chalk art on the
streets). We can't wait! The competition will happen before your eyes on Sunday morning, with the theme of FANTASY. Wearable art Wearable art is a big
part of the Australian Body Art Carnivale, & this year's parade & competition will take place on Sun 16 May. The theme for 2010 is also FANTASY. Wearable Art was introduced to the Australian Body Art
Carnivale in 2008, with parades showcasing original designs created from reused materials. Entrants can either create their design independently, or team up with fellow students, friends or colleagues & create a work of
wearable art together. Judges look for creative edge & originality of material, so designers are encouraged to "think outside the square". Creations do not have to be practical or commercially viable; they
just have to be WEARABLE. Vehicle body art The Wicked Campers Vehicle Body Art Competitions are a new inclusion for the Carnivale in 2010. And there are two chances to
win - the Wicked Campers Show & Shine Competition & the Wicked Camper Vehicle Art Competition! We're calling on car, bike, van or truck owners with special body paintwork to enter their prized
vehicles. Vehicle owners - who may or may not be the artists - are encouraged to bring their 4-wheeled works of art along on Sun 16 May. And for those with artistic talents, there is the opportunity to submit an
artwork design to paint onto a blank canvas Wicked Camper. Five submissions will be chosen to enter the Wicked Camper Vehicle Art competition and they will paint a Wicked Camper on Sat 15 May at the Australian Body Art
Carnivale. Their entries will then be judged on Sunday. Photography The Australian Body Art Carnivale is jam-packed full of photographic opportunities. It's a chance
to work with unique "talent" & by registering as a competitor, you'll receive unique access to competitors & models. It's also an opportunity to enter the Australian Body Art Carnivale photography
competition (with categories in photo print & digital art) and be in the running for great prizes. Visual art A visual art exhibition & competition called Art of
the Body is a highlight of the Australian Body Art Carnivale. The exhibition & competition is organised by Arts for Community. Art of the Body seeks to celebrate the human form, & artworks exhibited can be paintings,
miniatures, or three dimensional art. All artworks exhibited are for sale, & artists are also in the running for a number of prizes & awards. Competition details have been released and registrations are still
open in all categories. Visit www.australianbodyart.com.au to download entry forms to take part. It will be an experience you will never forget. While there are some generous prizes up for grabs, participating in itself will be a buzz!
Music & more Music will form a major part of this year’s Carnivale, with the free EUMUNDI LIVE music festival being held in Caplick Park as part of the Carnivale
celebrations on Saturday & Sunday. The Carnivale will also see world-class street performers & buskers, craft workshops, a Saturday evening sunset street party from 6pm – 7pm, plus a whole lot more.
Don’t miss this crazy, colourful weekend!

Sun 23 May OzTag Charity Challenge Kawana High School The Oztag Corporate Charity
Challenge is a fun charity event proudly supporting the Starlight Childrens Foundation. The event will assist the Starlight Childrens Foundation in brightening the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children. Oztag
is the latest craze in recreational sport that now has competitions running all over Australia. It is a non-tackling game. Normal dimensions of the field are 70 metres x 50 metres. Eight players in each team are on the
field at any one time. Players wear shorts with a Velcro patch on each side. A strip of cloth is attached to the Velcro, known as a tag. The object of the game is to score tries. Defenders prevent this by tagging the ball
carrier, removing the tag from the shorts. For this event to be successful we require teams to nominate to be part of a funfilled day of Oztag and we encourage local businesses to get involved to help us raise $5000
which will help Starlight to bring fun, laughter and support to seriously ill children and their families throughout Australia. We know with your help this fundraiser will become an annual event that the Starlight
Childrens Foundation can count. There are number of packages available including the Oztag round robin, a tug of war, oztag relay and the opportunity for business to showcase there goods and services to others at the
event, by way of a stall or display. Starlight relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations and community fundraisers like the Oztag Charity Challenge to give seriously ill and hospitalized children the
opportunity to access and benefit from Starlights programs, which help to restore the fun, laughter and joy that serious illness takes away. More info call 0408 700 154 or email caloundra@oztag.com or visit www.starlight.org.au

Thu 27 May 2010 Bobby Rydell with the Allstars Orchestra Sunshine Coast Function
Centre Caloundra RSL 19 West Tce Caloundra Seated Show 18+ Bobby Rydell has it all - good looks, fame and talent to spare. He was the real American teenage idol. Bobby Ridarelli, who later became Bobby
Rydell, performed as early as kindergarten doing impressions of movie stars. He got his early grounding in music from his father when they would frequent Philadelphia's big band hotspots. He then saw Gene Krupa
perform with Benny Goodman's orchestra and immediately wanted to follow in Krupa's footsteps. At nine he won the TV Teen Club amateur contest and became a regular performer. In his early teens he joined
Rocco and the Saints as their drummer. The trumpeter Francis Avallone, who later became the singer Frankie Avalon. It was soon after this that Bobby worked up a solo act as Bobby Rydell. He was soon recording for
Cameo-Parkway and the hits really flowed as Bobby Rydell became an international teenage sensation. Rockin' up the charts all around the world were 'We Got Love', 'Kissing Time', 'Wild One',
Swinging School', 'Volare', 'Sway', 'Good Time Baby' 'That Old Black Magic', 'I Wanna Thank You', 'Butterfly Baby', 'I've Got Bonnie', 'I'll Never
Dance Again', 'The Cha Cha Cha', 'Wildwood Days' and 'Forget Him'. Of all the teen idols of the day the singing of Bobby Rydell was unquestionably the most polished. As well as selling
millions of records Bobby Rydell was a regular on many television shows, especially Dick Clark's American Bandstand, and has remained a strong concert attraction over the decades throughout the world. He featured in
the Columbia movie 'Bye Bye Birdie' and 'That Lady From Peking'. Bobby Rydell's influence on popular music has been quite profound. When the producers of the world's largest selling movie
soundtrack album, 'Grease', wanted to pay tribute to the era in which it was set they named the school where most of the action took place as Rydell High. Tickets: $43 + Booking Fee Available at reception
