EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
Welcoming a young person from another part of the world into your home is a wonderful experience. Your hosted student grows & becomes a part of your family while both you & your family learn at the same time.
Exchange students have been coming to Buderim for about 15 years. There are a multitude of exchange programs which allow students to experience life in the Buderim community. Some of the organisations you may of heard of are: Rotary, AFS & YFU.
STUDENTS OF THE WORLD
An exchange student can be any teenager anywhere in the world with a desire to travel, grow as a person & experience new things. To be an exchange student is like taking a leap of faith into the unknown. The decision to go to another country as an exchange student is tough, but amazingly rewarding!
Once in another country you have a chance to learn about a new culture, meet new people & learn another language. It is a wonderful feeling to be accepted by both your new family & friends, to partake in everyday activities which may be routine for them, but something totally new for you. On exchange you cannot help but learn a lot about both your new country & yourself. You find yourself doing things that you once only dreamed of!
HOST FAMILIES
Inviting a teenager from another country to share your life, learn about Australia & tell you about their own country is an exciting prospect, one that will be long remembered & one which has many rewards. You will be fascinated as your new young ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ grows & becomes a member of your family. Everyone benefits as both host family & student realise the contrasts between their countries — gaining new understanding & appreciation of cultural differences.
An experience such as this broadens your horizons by showing you a new way of looking at things. Most importantly, you share a very special time of someone’s life & by showing such generosity you will have a profound positive impact on this young person’s life.
