PAINTERS
The Painting Group is one of the many popular groups of the Buderim Craft Cottage. It has a membership of approximately 30 people who specialize in watercolours, oils, acrylics, pastels & other mediums. We are a ‘do your own thing’ self-help group & participate in the Cottage fair days at Easter & Christmas. A workshop is conducted once or twice a year by a guest artist in any of the above mediums.
The highlight of the painting group’s calendar is our own Art Show. Conducted each year on the first full weekend in August, it is open to the public with all paintings available for sale.
The group meets every Monday morning from 8.30 till lunchtime. Occasionally, if the urge takes them, some of the members continue painting into the afternoon.
Any further details can be obtained by contacting the group’s present leader Helen on 5477 1037.
LIFE DRAWING
The Life Drawing group is a self-help group that meets every Monday from 12.45pm to 3pm. We work from live models & use a variety of mediums
Our group leader is Judy. Ph: 5476 1978.
POTTERS
The pottery group is a large happy group of friendly faces & clever hands who meet every Tuesday from 9am through till about 2.30pm. Most of the work done these days is handbuilding from intricate pieces to sculptures to bird baths to large beautiful pots. There are wheels available & we have our own kilns & other tools of the trade. There are a number of workshops by well known potters during the year & we share each other’s expertise & ideas. Each September we have an exhibition called The Sculptured Garden which usually runs the same time as the Buderim Garden Festival. This exhibition has become very well known for the quality & beauty of the pieces on show which are all for sale.
For further details please contact our group leader Carole on 5491 3571.
LACEMAKERS
The lace group started in 1988 with a group of ladies who wanted to learn Bobbin lace. When Ruth Emmersoin joined needlework she taught some interested members to tat. When the numbers doing the Bobbin lace decreased, they asked Ruth & her tatting group to join them & some others who were crocheting. Our small but happy group have continued on. We would welcome new members so, come & have a look every Tuesday morning from 9am to 12 noon.
Further information from Narelle. Ph: 5445 4484.
TAPESTRY
We are a small but active group that get together every Tuesday afternoon from 1pm-4pm for a chat, friendship & doing what we enjoy – tapestry, cross stitch & needle work.
Please phone Michele on 5476 8861 for further information.
NEEDLEWORK
The Needlework group meets on a Wednesday morning. We do many varieties of stiches - candlewicking, smocking, hardanger, silk ribbon & Brazilian are just a few of the many embroideries that we do. Regular workshops are conducted for those wanting to learn new skills. We have 2 ongoing community projects—clothes for premature & still born babies, & the Salvation Army
If you are interested please phone Marilyn on 5442 1207.
PATCHWORK
With membership now approaching 50, we gather each Wednesday afternoon (1pm—3.30pm) to share an enthusiasm for patchwork. Some of us are experienced ‘quilters’ but the majority enjoy our meetings as an opportunity to socialise with others & to gain some expertise along the way. Workshops are an added bonus (usually held once a month) plus the occasional ‘outing’ to visit craft shows or other patchworkers.
We would love to see you – please phone Gail on 5494 4756.
PORCELAIN PAINTERS
We paint on porcelain, china or glass with ‘Onglaze’ powder colours mixed & brushed on with an oil-based medium. Our pieces are fired in a kiln—usually several firings are required to complete each painting because if the paint is applied too thickly, it will not be absorbed under the glaze. We meet each Wednesday between 1pm & 4pm & would love to have some new members come along.
Please phone Lyn for more information on 5476 7780
SPINNERS & WEAVERS
The Spinners & Weavers meet each Thursday between 9am & 12 noon. Our activities include spinning, loom weaving, inkle weaving, stick weaving, rug making, tapestry weaving & Kumihimo (Japanese braid making) or just knitting & crocheting. We enjoy lots of laughs together over a friendly cup of tea & also have interaction with like-minded people from the Queensland Spinners, Weavers & Dyers in Brisbane & other local groups.
Please phone Dorothy on 5478 0763.
SILVERSMITHS
The Silversmiths meet every Friday morning from 9am. They are a self help group & have been going since 1975. We have workshops throughout the year covering many different topics & enjoy sharing ideas, techniques & a lot of good company. For the last couple of years we have held an exhibition of our work showcasing some of the extraordinary talent that this small group has. We would love to see you if you are interested in joining our group.
Our leader is Irene. Ph: 5445 2202.
FABRIC ART
The Fabric Art group consists of women from all age groups, backgrounds & walks of life, all with a common interest in Textile Art. The group meets on the1st & 3rd Friday of the month at 9.30am. Workshops are arranged throughout the year which cover many mediums & materials. New members are always welcome. ‘Fabric is visually stimulating, the movement & form offers yet another dimension to art. Flexibility is the one common characteristic of fabric. Its yielding, sensuous nature offers diversity, which is open to individual interpretation. Fabric art is an excellent medium for self expression.’
Please call Lyn. Ph: 5445 6113.
CALLIGRAPHY
Meeting every 1st & 3rd Saturday from 10 til 4, we are a group of around 12. Although we are a self-help group, some experience with calligraphy is needed before joining—we don’t want to teach you our bad habits! We can give you information about courses etc—please drop in & see us.
Our group leader is John. Ph: 5445 2515.
