Sun 29 Aug Hoodoo Gurus Purity of Essence Tour 2010 Sunshine Coast Function Centre 19
West Tce, Caloundra 7.30pm Standing Concert 18+ The mighty Hoodoo Gurus exist in their own time & space. Like all your favourite bands, they matter because their songs have soundtracked your party, BBQ,
celebration &, occasionally, commiseration. Take the test. Grab your iPod, fire up the stereo or just close your eyes & think about All. Those. Songs. Maybe your faves are Tojo, My Girl & I Want You Back
from the Stoneage Romeos era. Or Mars Needs Guitars, Bittersweet, Death Defying or Like Wow - Wipeout! have rocked your world. Throw in 1000 Miles Away, Waking Up Tired & The Right Time plus more than 100 other songs
they have written, recorded & played that have meant something to someone some time. And try getting Come Anytime out of your head for 24 hours after a Thank God You’re Here promo. Now add Crackin’
Up to that venerable list. A song so quintessentially Gurus that you just know the album it precedes MUST be good. It is only their 9th studio record , this opus called Purity Of Essence. The title is borrowed from the
band’s favourite movie, Stanley Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove Or How I Stopped Worrying & Learned To Love The Bomb. The film is a passion & an endless source of private jokes & jigsaw puzzle pieces that
make up the intricate collage that is Hoodoo Gurus. “It’s one of our favourite movies. When Rick auditioned for the band way back
when, we played together a bit in the rehearsal room. Well, that was fine, we knew he could play, but more importantly we wanted to know ’What’s your favourite movie?’ That was a very important thing to
us. It’s one thing to play music together but you have to share some of the same sensibilities, frontman Dave Faulkner explains. "Rick also liking Dr. Strangelove ticked all the right boxes." Faulkner
and his bandmates, guitarist Brad Shepherd, bassist Rick Grossman & drummer Mark Kingsmill, have been going strong, again, since reuniting in late-2003 after almost six years apart. Tickets: $32 + $3 trans.
fee Bookings Ph: 5438 5800 or visit: www.sunshinecoastfunctioncentre.com.au for more
