Buderim’s Home Online since 20 October 2000
Buderim is a picturesque township atop Buderim Mountain overlooking Queensland’s spectacular Sunshine Coast. Through our Virtual Village, we aim to make Buderim accessible to people 24 hours a day, because Buderim is the kind of place that once you visit, you always want to return to. In a British Airways Survey a number of years ago, Buderim was named 3rd after Paris & Aspen as the most desirable place to live in the world.
BuderimVillage.com.au was officially launched at Buderim’s Street Party on Friday 20 October 2000 & continues to grow with regular updates. While our real-world Buderim Village has recently celebrated 150 years of community spirit & settlement in 2012 by blossoming into this charming, friendly, ambient village, BuderimVillage.com.au has reached a milestone of its own — we are now an internet teenager — this will be our 14th year online — yes — 24/7 all Buderim Village, all the time. We’ll be celebrating our 14th Birthday all month long during October 2014 as Buderim’s original & all-time favourite website!
Thanks to your positive feedback, there will be further exciting new additions happening during our 14th year online in 2014. We invite you to come back & visit Buderim Village regularly to see what’s going on.
Visit Buderim...Enjoy the experience.

The Story of www.BuderimVillage.com.au
THERE CAN BE NO DISPUTE that www.BuderimVillage.com.au, was the 1st, the original - the authentic, innovative Buderim website; a pioneering venture to create a distinctive website - back in the good ol’ days when the internet was a much smaller place, nerds abounded, web design was in its early stages (& massively more complex) & websites for townships were barely heard of. Computers were much, much slower with a lil start-up called Google being talked about as the next big thing with no Facebook or Twitter yet in existence.
Daring to be different, a radical idea was discussed - to showcase the little village township of Buderim online - the place we had chosen to live & call home - a place we loved so much we wanted to share its natural beauty & sense of community with others locally, nationally & globally.
Months of research was done, data gathered by visiting each business in person, lots of typing from hard copy was required as most businesses were yet to have a thing called email. Photos were taken (on a new state-of-the-art $4000 digital camera - not a quick snap on a phone!) pages were designed, published & uploaded at a snail’s pace compared to today & slowly but surely BuderimVillage.com.au came into existence, evolved & over time this data collection, all gelled together as an overall representation & our interpretation of Buderim Village online.
Thoughtfully planned, designed & created by local Buderim couple Tracey Campbell & Brent Williamz, we worked together as a team to meet with locals, community leaders, businesses, retailers, accommodation managers, real estate agents, cafes & restaurants owners - clubs, associations & organisations & event managers, to try & explain this unique & unusual crazy idea/concept to any one who would listen - most of whom back then had little or no knowledge of the internet.
The most memorable response we got was “The internet? Nah, it’s just a fad, it will pass.” Despite the non-believers who thought we were stark raving mad...we continued. We gathered stacks of local information, history, things to see & do, then organised a Buderim Business Directory, and finally sorted out HOW to display all this info via the navigation & menus so it would be instinctive & easy to use for online visitors.
We managed to put together over 150 web pages - with barely another local township website existing at that time to look to for inspiration - we just created BuderimVillage.com.au from our own imagination. Something colourful, friendly, quirky & functional for ease of access if we were a local - but also bearing in mind what we would LIKE to look at & things we MIGHT want to know if we wanted to visit a particular place such as Buderim - if we hadn’t visited before.
So after 3 months solid work - there it was - launched online at the Buderim Street Party before a huge crowd on that memorable Friday night 20 October in the Year 2000. Now suddenly anyone could access the internet, go online & see Buderim from anywhere in the world. We were winging it in how to showcase a town we loved & represent an entire community online. Would anybody even look at it - we wondered...???
Fast forward 16 years & the statistics are just staggering. For a brief moment in time we were in the top 100,000 websites WORLDWIDE. For the first 5 years we were consistently ranked by Alexa in the Top 1 -10 most visited websites in Queensland. Visitor numbers have skyrocketed & since traffic data became available to us in 2005 we have gone from 11,021 visitors a year & 341,449 hits to annual peaks of 90,0000 visitors & in excess of 6,000,000 hits. Total visitors to this website from Oct 2005 to 2016 are well over half a million people! Considering that no data was recorded for the first 5 years - that’s WAY more than half a million people that have looked at/viewed/seen/been to/visited or found this little Buderim website! For us that equates to a hit record!
Faithfully maintained by just the two of us (Tracey & Brent) since that day way back at the start of the new millenium, the BuderimVillage.com.au website has been through many, many changes as technology has been rapidly updated. Sure some might say it’s a little old school now - but hey, so are we :)
Initially, this Buderim website was created to complement our original printed publication ‘The Buderim Guide & Map’ which had been launched on the Sunshine Coast a few months prior - on 30 June 2000 & updated & reprinted for 9 years, until the internet & Google Maps kind of surpassed the need for a printed publication & without continued support from local advertisers for the print medium - unfortunately it ceased to be.
During those 9 years 330,000 copies of ‘The Buderim Guide & Map’ had showcased the local Buderim businesses & other advertisers & been printed & distributed FOR FREE & these free maps were highly sought after & well used locally & right across the Sunshine Coast at many Visitor Information Centres in regional Qld. For a number of years we even had a request page on BuderimVillage.com.au where you could order ‘The Buderim Guide & Map’ & we posted them out FREE all around the world.
This pioneering little Buderim website has had its ups & downs but it was built with good intentions & initially created from a love & passion for the enchanting little place in which we lived. We were just a couple of early internet adopters in Buderim who took a chance & embraced the concept of online communities early on - way before they became mainstream & led the way for many others to follow. That is our legacy. We have faithfully maintained & updated this Buderim Village website practically every week (& sometimes daily & much more frequently) for over 16 years. That’s 832 weeks & over 5840 days! It has been a huge task but has never felt like a chore. We just love letting people know what’s happening in & around Buderim. Now of course, you can look at us on your mobile/cell phone instantly - so LIKE us on your Facebook page & TWEET about us on your Twitter feed via the icons up the top of any page & continue to spread the word! No matter where in the world we are, Buderim will always hold a special place in our hearts.
